3.5/1 The Other "Living Desert" (Palm Desert, CA)

Guess where we are (We did not make it to Borrego Springs in Anza-Borrego SP). Flowers were fairly abundant and the animals for the most part friendly—except for the mountain sheep; they would not come down from their lofty place on the rocky cliff. The Palm Desert is a reasonably priced alternative to Tucson, AZ’s Living Desert. After 6 1/2 hours, we took our 500 images (I did my share, esp., on the animals),

ILLUSTRATIONS: Pigmy Owl, Ground Squirrel, Strawberry Cactus, Prickly Pear Cactus, Barrel Cactus, & Cheetah.
We pointed George, our Alaskan guide grizzly South and soon the Salton Sea was sighted on our left. Turning to the West, we headed for Borrego Springs. By 5 pm we decided we had enough so we stop-ped at one of the many Off Road Vehicle campgrounds along the eastern edge of the State Park. To sum up the day: 66 miles, 500 pictures, maximum temperature 97°F.
