65.7/02 Wet Texas

We haven’t done much driving in the rain, nor been delayed by flooding. The showers are sporadic and have been mostly in the late afternoon or during the night when we are comfortably settled. But since San Antonio, the ground everywhere is saturated to the maximum, standing water in every low spot.

Stephen F. Austin State Park

Our campsite at Stephen F. Austin State Park, a few miles north of the I-10 from San Felipe TX, and a few miles west of Houston

Brazos River

Except for mowed cleared areas, we are in dense tropical vegetation, with old-man’s beard lichen and vines hanging from tall trees. The park’s nature trails are swallowed by the overflowing Brazos River.

Golfers Only

The Park features a golf course; they are not likely to be interrupted by stray picnickers today.

Intrepid Golfers

In spite of the saturated ground, dedicated golfers are active, as well as the mowing machines. I wonder what length cleats they are using on their shoes today.

Par 5?

It doesn’t seem that the Pro took into account ALL the water hazards on hole 3 when he fixed par at 5. No one is likely to par this hole for a while (or until the Brazos River subsides).

“Caddy, will you remove the pin
so I can see the hole better?”
